A practical and flexible method for elongation of fatty acid carbon chains

A flexible and practical method for elongation of fatty acid acyl chains based on Wurtz-type bromide coupling has been recently used by Lipidox. Using this methodology various very long chain PUFAs have been prepared in non-labeled as well as deuteriated forms.
