A practical and flexible method for elongation of fatty acid carbon chains

Methodology for carbon-chain elongation of fatty acids based on Wurtz type chemistry has recently been elaborated by Lipidox and will be added shorlty. This has allowed preparation of e.g. the 4-carbon-elongated form of DHA (8(Z),11(Z),14(Z),17(Z),20(Z),23(Z)-hexacosahexaenoic acid), which serves as the substrate for ELOVL4 resulting in the formation of elovanoids in retina.
